Opportunity Overview
North Shore Community Health (NSCH) is an industry leader in the delivery of community healthcare. We are looking for a Per Diem Medical Assistant (MA) for our Peabody Family Health Center. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, the MA assists providers (physicians, NPs, behavioral health staff, nurses) with patient visits, including administrative, clinical and laboratory duties.
DescriptionThe Per Diem MA is expected to sign up for at least one shift per month. All shifts must be worked onsite, directly with a provider to room patients. Cultural competence is required, as you will work with a racially, ethnically and culturally diverse team.
The OrganizationNSCH provides comprehensive primary care, dental services, behavioral health care, care management, pharmacy services, substance abuse treatment, nurse care management, and insurance enrollment assistance. We operate sites in Gloucester, Peabody, and Salem Family Health Centers and offer school‑based health centers in the Salem and Peabody School Districts.
Vaccination and Health ScreeningAll employees are required to receive all required vaccinations and health screenings each year. Vaccination against COVID‑19, flu, pertussis, and tetanus is required before the first day of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided with pre‑hire paperwork. Accommodations may be requested through HR.
Responsibilities- Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
- Screens patients according to established protocol including height, weight, urine testing, hematocrits, vision testing, blood pressure, PHQ‑9.
- Prepares paperwork for referrals and provides translation services as needed.
- Obtains tests as delineated, and sets up for procedures as listed under the MA competency checklist.
- Performs tasks within the EMR as listed in the MA competency checklist.
- Participates in orders, hospital discharge and ER tracking.
- Clean and stock exam rooms, maintain sterilization statistics, and inventory control system.
- Performs quality assurance tests as necessary.
- Answers phone or EMR messages when needed; contacts patients via letter, telephone or patient portal and schedules appointments as needed.
- Maintains HIPAA integrity and patient confidentiality.
- Copies and faxes documents as needed.
- Manages durable medical equipment requests; assists with visiting nurse referrals and prior authorizations.
- Performs additional duties to fulfill NSCH's mission as assigned.
- Completes NSCH‑required compliance training before the deadline.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience working in a medical field such as CNA, EMT, phlebotomy or related.
- Students in a medical field are encouraged to apply.
- Completion or willingness to complete Basic Life Support training (CPR).
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to be flexible about work assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to float between the three sites and commute onsite.
- Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
- Current vaccinations against COVID‑19, flu, pertussis and tetanus.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and Epic is a plus.
