Position:
Registered Nurse (RN) for Surgical Suite – Adult Medical, General Surgery, Oncology (Surgical Services). This listing describes responsibilities, qualifications, and offerings associated with the role.
- Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center.
- Participates in making pre-op calls to patients when possible.
- Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed.
- Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching.
- Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient.
- Gathers equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
- Creates and maintains multiple sterile fields and observes/enforces strict standards of asepsis.
- Functions in the role of Scrub and Circulating nurse.
- Performs sponge, sharps and instrument counts as required.
- Administers medications and solutions as prescribed.
- Positions and prepares patient on operating table.
- Monitors and controls the environment; adheres to safety standards and precautions.
- Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
- Maintains proper functioning of equipment and sterilizing procedures.
- Performs in emergency situations.
- Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist in the discharge process.
- Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate.
- Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
- Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum two years of recent operating room nursing preferred.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and software.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies.
- Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette.
- Understanding of electronic medical systems.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties.
- Ability to learn procedures and software functionalities to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public with empathy and tact.
- Team player with a positive attitude; able to work with a diverse population and demonstrate patience and professionalism.
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues.
- Registered Nurse with orthopedic perioperative experience desired.
- Current Massachusetts RN license.
- BLS certifications required.
