ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES- The senior accountant will be a part of the corporate accounting team located in Peachtree Corners, GA.
- This position will support the Accounting Department and operations of the Company and is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the vision, mission, and functional strategy for construction accounting that supports the company’s overall strategic goals.
- This individual functions as a key member of the Company accounting team and is expected to interact across all functions to ensure strategies and priorities are aligned with company objectives and financial controls.
- This includes developing collaborative relationships with business leaders to drive value-add measurable results and continuous improvement of processes.
- Position will work with development team in assessing process improvements surrounding construction project accounting and inventory management.
- Support end-to-end construction accounting process by maintaining proper accounting of all active construction projects in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with internal and external audits.
- Perform analysis of active construction project costs based on percentage of completion to estimate proper monthly accruals.
- Maintain proper tracking of construction inventory at the warehouse and transferred inventory to the project sites to determine a proper inventory balance including a monthly estimated reserve for slow moving or obsolete inventory items.
- Reconcile construction inventory activity between general ledger and inventory tracking system on a weekly basis.
- This position also collaborates with key Development business partners to develop and refine processes while ensuring adherence to accounting policies and internal controls. Ensures the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of month end close activities for construction in progress activities, including journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and reporting.
- Functions as the point of contact for the business on all aspects of construction capital expenditure requests and the assessment of inventory and inventory reserve balances.
- Supports the corporate tax group on matters related to construction in progress.
- Works directly with internal and external auditors on all matters pertaining to functional area of responsibility.
- Prepares ad-hoc financial reports and analysis for senior management.
- Carries out special projects as required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- CPA preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of recent functional construction accounting experience in a role performing or auditing percentage of completion (POC) or proportional performance contract accounting, including the reconciling of contract performance, actual costs/efforts incurred, expected costs/efforts still to be incurred, and the overall budgeted contract price/efforts.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong time management and organizational skills required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Experience with construction accounting general ledger system and/or inventory management system, preferably Spectrum Construction Management by Viewpoint or Fishbowl Inventory Management.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, take initiative, and apply sound judgment.
- Experience and strong understanding of monthly close and reporting cycles in a large complex US corporate environment preferred.
