Position: Mechanical Engineering Consultant 2 (Power Uprates) - Nuclear

Mechanical Engineering Consultant 2 (Power Uprates) - Nuclear

Join Sargent & Lundy to support major power uprates in the nuclear industry. This role is based at our Peachtree Corners, GA office with a hybrid schedule of 3 days in‑office per week.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consulting level expertise on nuclear power uprates.
  • Lead technical discussions and present project status to clients and internal teams.
  • Develop engineering proposals, cost estimates, and resource load plans.
  • Perform technical reviews of heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, and plant safety hazards.
  • Evaluate equipment sizing, optimization, and selection to support the proposed uprate.
  • Review vendor bids and conduct document reviews ensuring equipment compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff on technical tasks.
  • Conduct independent reviews of work, including calculations and drawings.
  • Attend client meetings and site walk‑downs to verify scope and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑approved program.
  • 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
  • Experience with nuclear power uprates and turbine retrofit projects.
  • Strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Excellent technical report writing and numerical computation skills.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to nuclear power plant design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
