Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! We are seeking a Marine Mechanic to serve on our SEMAT Hawaii team located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This Marine Mechanic will perform mechanical maintenance and maintenance training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships.

What You Will Do
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and maintenance training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships.
  • Master understanding of production and processes.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
  • May manage one or more multiple jobs.
  • Complete comprehension of specialty trade functions and tools. Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
  • Develops and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product.
  • Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignments.
What You Must Have
  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Must have experience as a shipboard marine mechanical trades specialty with 6 or more years of shipboard maintenance and repair experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.
  • Must be competent in the use of mechanical equipment and tools in corrective repair efforts in order to accomplish ship repairs.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Start date contingent upon approved DBIDS base access, which is required for this position and continued employment.

  • A current, valid DoD security clearance.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
