- Perform immunohematology reference work and consultations for customer hospitals.
- Process samples for outsourced testing; evaluate laboratory data and test results; investigate and resolve process issues.
- Assist with evaluation, validation, and implementation of new technology and instrumentation.
- Maintain detailed and organized paperwork.
- Provide transfusion service consultation, including antibody identification and provision of compatible units.
- Assist in the preparation of all components, including special components.
- Perform basic laboratory computer functions and maintain accurate labeling of blood and blood components.
- Assist with shipping recovered plasma to commercial vendors.
- Investigate and resolve product quality issues.
- Perform and document all phases of batch release, including reconciliation, result entry, verification, and quarantine of components.
- Perform and document all phases of the discard/destruction of unacceptable components.
- Perform and document all phases of testing, quality control, and maintenance to comply with internal and external agency specifications.
- Ensure competency of new technical staff through the Laboratory's Training Program.
- Assist in teaching students or student groups in routine production procedures.
- Reconcile all blood products daily.
- Promote individual continuing education as needed; gain/maintain competency in all required lab procedures.
- Assist the manager of the technical laboratory in organizing and maintaining written documentation of training and competency assessments.
Qualified candidates will have a stable work history and a Bachelor's Degree. A certification in Medical Technology is preferred. Candidates may also be Medical Lab Technicians with at least six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in a blood bank (SBB, BB) is a plus. Mississippi Blood Services provides excellent training to ensure comfort with all procedures.
