The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Development Technician to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Community Development department within our Community Development Services division.

The Development Technician earns a competitive hourly salary of $21.83 to 22.71 per hour based on experience and qualifications

A DAY IN LIFE AS A DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIANDuties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. These essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and regular attendance must be maintained.
Essential Functions:
- Reviews development related applications, comparing the information provided by the applicant to the guidelines in the Unified Development Code, Engineering Design Criteria Manual, and the policies established by the department and city.
- Enters responses, data, and approval information.
- Coordinates and facilitates all development applications.
- Serves customers at the front counter with any type of general development questions, and answers questions regarding permits and applications.
- Answers phone calls regarding general development related questions.
- Communicates and coordinates development within the city with developers and other city departments such as Building Permits, Engineering, Planning, Inspectors, and Fire Marshal.
- Assists in finding ways to improve processes and services.
- Coordinates plan review of all assigned building permits; logs in all new permits into the system; uploads digital plans for review to the system; assigns needed reviews depending on project; verifies applicant has paid needed review fees.
- Monitors review times for all commercial and/or residential plan submittals; follows up with applicable plans examiners.
- Maintains and updates the plan review log, and ensures all reviews are done in a timely manner.
- Creates permit review report and facilitates parts of biweekly DRC meetings.
- Communicates with developers, architects, engineers, contractors or other City staff and the general public; communicates via mail, email, and phone or in person.
- Assists with issue resolution between consultants and customers by scheduling and facilitating meetings related to assigned permits as needed.
- Replies to emails daily from colleagues and/or applicants regarding permit questions, status, or other permit related questions.
- Evaluates design, plan review and permit fees or any other associated fees.
- Schedules meetings, coordinates and facilitates commercial permit review, new residential construction, pre-development, and consultations.
- Provides weekly reports for all assigned permits in review; performs overall review of all permits acquired and verifies all needed inspections are complete once the permit is approved; provides customers with certificate of completion or certificate of occupancy.
- Process and follows up on Temporary Certificates of Occupancy.
- Performs related work as assigned.
