Job SummaryThe RN - Preop/PACU role provides professional nursing care to patients in the preoperative and post-anesthesia care unit, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and utilizing the nursing process. Responsibilities include conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintaining medical records while ensuring patient safety and a positive experience.
Shift DetailsMon‑Fri: 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Call Requirements- 6–7 on‑call shifts per 6‑week period (average 1 call per week)
- Weekend call: 1 call shift per month
- Holiday call: 1 call shift per year
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; BSN preferred. - Licensure:
Current Texas state license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing. - Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications may be required based on unit needs. - Preferred Experience:
ICU, Pre‑op, or PACU nursing experience. - Demonstrated commitment to the Partners‑in‑Caring process and ability to integrate Memorial Hermann’s culture in all interactions.
- Ability to adhere to Texas Board of Nursing standards and Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
- Willingness to support department goals, mentor less experienced staff, and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Deliver safe and appropriate care to patients according to nursing skill inventory and patient needs.
- Coordinate planning for nursing care with the interdisciplinary team and administer clinical decisions.
- Collaborate with, direct, and delegate to the healthcare team to achieve positive outcomes based on evidence and professional standards.
- Coordinate treatment plans; develop and implement discharge or transfer plans.
- Participate in systemic, interdisciplinary evaluation of programs and process improvement.
- Consider diverse patient needs throughout the continuum of care, ensuring high service standards and optimized patient experience.
- Maintain a safe and accountable environment, adhering to all policies, supplies, and productivity standards.
- Promote professional growth through mandatory/continuing education and skills competency and support departmental goals.
- Adhere to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice and clinical competency.
