In this role, you'll work with construction field teams and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC/BIM) professionals to help ensure accurate placement of piping, equipment, structures, concrete elements, and other construction components.

The ideal candidate has hands-on construction experience, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn technical surveying equipment and construction layout methods.

Previous surveying or rodman experience is a plus, but candidates with transferable construction field experience and the ability to learn are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities Construction Surveying & Field Layout
  • Assist with establishing and transferring control points, benchmarks, grid lines, and elevations.
  • Support field layout for piping, equipment, structures, walls, columns, and anchor bolts.
  • Perform basic measurements and layout activities using tape measures, squares, builder's levels, transits, and robotic total stations.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving field layout discrepancies under guidance.
  • Support layout and quality-control activities for self-performed construction and subcontractor work.
Field Data & Technology
  • Assist with collecting field measurements, as-built data, and reality capture information.
  • Learn and support the use of robotic total stations, laser scanning equipment, and digital construction tools.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, daily reports, and documentation.
  • Assist with transferring field data to the VDC/BIM team.
  • Follow established procedures for equipment care, maintenance, and data collection.
Construction Drawings & Coordination
  • Develop the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, dimensions, and basic construction models.
  • Assist with reviewing layout drawings and field information before work begins.
  • Communicate with field supervisors, construction teams, and VDC personnel regarding project needs.
  • Follow company surveying standards, best practices, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of construction-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, per the official Level I classification.
  • Experience in construction fieldwork, surveying, mechanical construction, piping, concrete, civil/sitework, or related trades.
  • Basic math, measurement, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, follow instructions, and accept feedback.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.

  • Exposure to total stations or robotic total stations.
  • Experience assisting with construction layout, elevations, benchmarks, or field measurements.
  • Mechanical construction, process piping, concrete, or site construction experience.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings or digital construction technology.
