Role OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our growing team in the West Texas Area. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and programming of automation systems and electrical equipment. You’ll work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure smooth, reliable operations of field automation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day support, preventive maintenance, and programming for automation equipment at field locations including well sites, SWDs, compressor stations, and tank batteries.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot facility and wellsite communication equipment and instruments, including PLCs and VSDs.
- Perform installation, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of instrumentation, communication, and electrical equipment with minimal supervision.
- Conduct planned maintenance checks and calibration; complete and submit all required reports in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot and program PLCs and related automation systems.
- Lead automation failure analysis and provide recommendations for system improvements.
- Maintain strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate regularly with the operations team, SCADA/IT group, measurement, and engineering departments to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
- 5+ years of experience in automation, instrumentation, or a related field.
- 3+ years of automation experience in the oil and gas industry preferred.
- Associate degree or trade certification in Instrumentation, Electronics Technology, or related discipline.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting automated systems and diagnosing technical issues.
- Experience with communication equipment (cell modems, radios, network switches, etc.).
- PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with systems such as Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, ABB, SCADAPack, Redlion, and ROC, including HMI and drive systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, P&IDs, and C&E drawings.
- Skilled in preventive maintenance and system optimization.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in field environments.
- Experience with robotics systems setup, servicing, and optimization is a plus.
