A High School English Teacher instructs students in grades 9-12 on literature, composition, grammar, and critical thinking. Key responsibilities include creating lesson plans aligned with standards, assessing student progress, fostering a positive classroom culture, and supporting literacy through reading and writing instruction.
Key Responsibilities and Duties- Instruction & Curriculum: Design and deliver engaging lesson plans covering literature analysis, composition, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Grade assignments, essays, and exams promptly to provide constructive feedback on writing and comprehension.
- Classroom Management: Establish a safe, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment conducive to discussion and growth.
- Student Support: Offer differentiated instruction to support struggling learners and challenge high-performing students.
- Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with English department staff to refine curriculum, and regularly communicate with parents regarding student progress.
- Professionalism: Participate in professional development to stay current with educational technology and trends.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or related field.
- Certification: State-specific teaching certification or license for Secondary English (Grades 9-12).
- Skills: Strong communication skills, passion for literature, proficiency in classroom technology, and ability to foster critical thinking.
- Attributes: Patience, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Environment: Classroom setting, often requiring long periods of sitting or standing.
- Hours: Standard school day hours, with additional time required for grading, lesson planning, and extracurricular supervision.
- Season: Generally follows a 10-month academic calendar.
