Overview
Academic Tutor II Part-Time (Multiple Vacancies) role at Broward College. Tutors work in the Academic Success Center (ASC) or assigned department, both one-on-one and in small groups, to help students understand course concepts, become independent learners, and succeed in and out of the classroom. Tutors share learning, studying, and test-taking strategies and perform some clerical duties to support the functions of the ASC.
Tutoring subjects include accounting, basic computer concepts, economics, English, English for academic purposes, math, science, and modern foreign language.
- Conducts individual, small group, and remote tutoring sessions.
- Assess, assist, and encourage students during tutoring sessions.
- Monitors tutor appointment schedules and assists students with making appointments.
- Assists in the development of workshops and exam reviews; facilitates group study sessions (workshops, exam reviews, etc.).
- Participates in tutor training sessions and department meetings; represents the ASC during classroom visitations, orientations, and campus-wide events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Advanced levels and proficiency in the subject areas to be tutored.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work with students from diverse educational, cultural, religious, and social backgrounds.
- Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours weekly.
- Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Tutoring experience in the subject area strongly preferred.
