Position: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, RISK MANAGEMENT

This is an executive level position responsible for assisting with administering the day-to-day operations of the Department of Risk Management. The incumbent will assist with administering the activities of General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Insurance Procurement, Property Liability and Subrogation, Group Insurance and Safety programs. An individual should possess knowledge of insurance coverage, State Law governing self-insurance and related Florida statutes. This position reports to the Risk Management Director.

Responsibilities include:

assisting with reviewing and recommending Risk Control and Claim policies; assisting with recommending funding levels to the Self Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund; assisting in developing the budget for the Department of Risk Management; assisting with evaluating, negotiating and recommending vendors which may provide services for the City of Miami as it relates to risk management functions; preparing and/or ensuring the preparation of regular and special reports;

supervising and monitoring staff activities to ensure maximum productivity at minimal costs; assisting with short and long range planning strategies; attending meetings representing the City as it concerns Risk Management; and performs other related duties as required.

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance,Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field. Five (5) years experience working as an administrator with group insurance benefits, general liability, public officials liability, law enforcement liability, employment practice liability, property damage, or workers’ compensation programs, preferably in the government sector. Two (2) years supervisory and management experience is also required. Insurance Institute of America’s Associate Risk Manager’s (ARM) designation is preferred.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a bachelor’s degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending upon the needs of the department, certification or licensure in a specific area of Risk Management may be required.
