The Local Growth Fund (Wales) is a three-year programme ) supporting economic development across Wales through investment in businesses, skills and infrastructure.

Priority 2 of the Local Growth Fund focuses on helping people develop the skills and confidence needed to access sustainable employment. It aims to improve employability, address local skills shortages and ensure that training reflects the needs of employers, while supporting inclusive economic growth across Wales.

The Youth Futures project is designed to support young people aged 16-24 who are long-term unemployed or economically inactive. Through vocational learning, employability development and personalised support, the project helps young people gain the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to move into employment, apprenticeships or further learning.

The Role

Futureworks is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Skills Adviser to inspire and support young people to achieve their potential.

Working with young people aged 16-24, you will deliver engaging group learning sessions, accredited vocational qualifications and employability programmes that prepare participants for the workplace. You will create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, helping young people build confidence, develop work-ready skills and overcome barriers to employment.

The role involves delivering structured programmes across Pembrokeshire, including Haverfordwest, Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and communities in North and North East Pembrokeshire. Travel throughout the county is an essential part of the role.

Job Purpose

You will support young people to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to secure and sustain employment. Through high-quality vocational and employability training, you will help participants gain recognised qualifications, improve their confidence and resilience, and prepare for successful progression into work, apprenticeships or further education.

Key Responsibilities Participant Engagement and Support
  • Recruit, engage and support young people throughout their learning journey.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage participation, motivation and achievement.
  • Identify barriers to learning and employment, providing tailored support and appropriate referrals where required.
  • Promote confidence, resilience, wellbeing and positive attitudes towards work.
  • Maintain regular contact with participants to encourage attendance, progression and successful outcomes.

Training Delivery
  • Deliver engaging, structured group sessions in employability, personal development and vocational learning.
  • Deliver accredited and non-accredited learning programmes leading to recognised qualifications.
  • Prepare young people for the workplace through practical activities, projects and work-related learning.
  • Develop participants' essential workplace skills, including communication, teamwork, problem solving, customer service, digital skills, time management and professionalism.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet a wide range of learning styles, abilities and additional support needs.
  • Deliver training across Futureworks centres, community venues and outreach locations throughout Pembrokeshire.
Progression and Employability
  • Support young people to identify realistic career goals and progression routes.
  • Prepare participants for interviews, job applications, CV writing and recruitment processes.
  • Work alongside employer engagement colleagues to support work tasters, work experience opportunities and employment progression.
  • Encourage progression into employment, apprenticeships, trainee ships or further education.
