Position: Specialist Learning Support Practitioner (ALN)

Specialist Learning Support Practitioner

New Directions are an award-winning recruitment agency, with a background of over 30 years in education. We are recruiting Primary Teachers/Newly Qualified Teachers to work within the Vale of Glamorgan.

Classroom Management / Special Educational Needs / Child Support / Teamwork

Location: Penarth/Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

Salary: £93.00 per day

Schedule: Monday– Friday 8.30pm – 3.30pm, term-time only

New Directions are recruiting specialist ALN support assistants to work within a day special school for pupils aged 3–19. This setting supports children and young people with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), moderate learning difficulties (MLD), social emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, or autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

Responsibilities and Requirements

Required:

  • Experience working with children and young people with additional learning needs (ALN/SEN), or a strong willingness to develop expertise in this area.
  • Understanding of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and the ability to support pupils through nurturing, structured and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high‑quality support and teaching, working with pupils in small groups as well as on a 1:1 basis across the curriculum.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong classroom practice, effective use of ICT, high expectations for pupil engagement and achievement, and a commitment to working collaboratively to provide the best opportunities for all learners.
