Sen Teacher- Behavioural Support

Overview

SEN Behavioural Support Teacher needed to join an award‑winning SEN school in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. The role focuses on supporting pupils aged 3–19 years with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), particularly those requiring structured behavioural and emotional support to access learning.

The successful candidate will deliver and support learning across the curriculum, working with pupils who may present with behaviours that challenge, social communication needs, or emotional regulation difficulties. The role involves creating a calm, nurturing, and highly structured learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to engage.

• Deliver and support learning across the curriculum for pupils with ALN.
• Create a calm, nurturing, and highly structured learning environment that supports emotional wellbeing and engagement.
• Work with pupils who may display behaviours that challenge, social communication needs, or emotional regulation difficulties.
• Apply positive behaviour support strategies, trauma‑informed approaches, or therapeutic practices to promote inclusion and wellbeing.
• Build strong relationships with pupils, promote positive behaviour, and support academic and social development.

• Experience teaching in SEN schools.
• Coherent and in‑depth understanding of ALN and how to address it through independent learning plans.
• Ability to create engaging environments that encourage learning and self‑exploration.
• Remain calm under pressure and demonstrate high empathy during challenging situations.
• Lead by example and support fellow staff in behaviour and attitudes throughout the school.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
• Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
• Level 2 Safeguard training.
• Professional references covering the previous 24 months of employment, including a reference from a SEN school.

The school is based in Penarth with campuses around Barry and Cardiff. It supports around 500 pupils aged 3–19 with ALN, including ASD, PMLD, and physical disabilities. The environment is fast paced, with strong staff support and a dedicated Headteacher.
