Lifting engineer

Job Overview

A lifting engineer is a technical specialist responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing safe lifting operations, primarily using cranes and hoists in construction, oil & gas, and industrial sectors. They develop detailed lifting plans, calculate load capacities, select rigging gear and ensure compliance with safety standards.

• Lifting Plans & Procedures:
  Creating technical documents (lifting plans, rigging studies) for heavy or complex lifts.
• Equipment Selection & Inspection:
  Determining the correct crane, hoists, and lifting tackle for specific tasks and ensuring their inspection.
• Safety & Compliance:
  Ensuring all operations adhere to safety regulations, performing risk assessments, and ensuring proper rigging techniques.
• Operational Support:
  Supervising lifting operations on-site, troubleshooting, and coordinating with crane operators.

• Education:
  
  A bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical or Structural) is usually required.
• Certification:
  Specialized qualifications such as LEEA (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association) certification are highly valued.
• Experience:
  
  Requires strong knowledge of crane mechanics, rigging procedures, and structural analysis.
• Skills:
  
  Technical problem-solving, attention to detail, and knowledge of international lifting standards.

• Construction sites and infrastructure projects.
• Offshore oil and gas platforms/vessels.
• Manufacturing and heavy engineering facilities.
