We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join our team in the newly created role of Head of Finance, providing financial leadership and helping to ensure the charity's long-term financial sustainability.
About the role
Working closely with the Director of Finance and Governance, the Head of Finance will provide leadership of the charity's finance function, ensuring robust financial control, statutory compliance, excellent business partnering, accurate financial reporting and effective stewardship of the charity's resources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as the senior finance business partner to the Senior Leadership Teams, providing financial insight, analysis, challenge, and advice to support decision-making.
- Lead the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial management, robust financial controls, effective cashflow management, and high-quality financial reporting.
- Oversee statutory accounts and external audit, ensuring compliance with Charity SORP, accounting standards, Companies Act requirements, and other relevant financial regulations.
- Provide technical expertise and oversight for taxation, payroll, pensions, Gift Aid, VAT, and wider financial compliance, ensuring the charity maintains a strong control environment.
- Lead and develop the Finance and Governance Team, managing the Finance Manager and Board Secretary.
- Support organisational governance, ensuring compliance with statutory bodies, effective board support, maintenance of statutory registers, and liaison with professional advisers.
- Manage risk activities, maintaining the corporate risk register and compliance framework, supporting risk identification and mitigation, and providing assurance and reporting to senior leaders and trustees.
About you
As the ideal candidate, you will have/be:
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent) with a proven track record of leading and developing colleagues.
- A collaborative leader who builds strong relationships, communicates effectively with a range of stakeholders, and motivates others to achieve high standards.
- Service-minded, flexible and adaptable, with a proactive and solution-focused approach to challenges and continuous improvement.
- Experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management.
- Experience of supporting non-finance professionals, providing insight, challenge and support.
- Sound experience of preparing statutory accounts.
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, financial controls and regulatory compliance.
- Experience of identifying and advising on financial and organisational risk.
- Experience of driving continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and controls.

This role is based at our Head Office in Sully, with hybrid working available. The successful candidate will be expected to work on site for a minimum of three days each week.
