Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Receptionist/Administrator at Redlands Surgery Penarth. The shifts will be fixed days and times but a flexible approach to the requirements of the surgery is essential. The successful applicant must be prepared to start work at 7.30 a.m and/or finish work at 6.30 p.m. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard‑working and reliable individual who has excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, ideally with previous experience of working in a GP surgery and using the clinical IT system Emis, although training will be provided for the right person.
Responsibilities- Opening/Closing of the Surgery
- Telephone Call Handling
- Booking and Cancelling Appointments
- Front of House Reception Duties
- Managing Patient, Doctor and Hospital queries
- Prescription Requests
- Opening and Distributing Post
- Using Microsoft Office package
- Communication via Docman, day book and e‑mail
- Communication with all hospital departments
- Using the Clinical System Emis
- Electronic Filing of results and reports
- Scanning and Work‑flowing of hospital letters
- Other administrative duties associated with the role
We are a well‑managed and organised practice, established within the Eastern Vale Collaboration, EVC of Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. We provide a full range of enhanced services to our patients including minor surgery, LARC/Coil contraception, nursing home enhanced care and shared care monitoring.

The role attracts an annual leave entitlement of 5 weeks plus a pro‑rata allocation of public and bank holidays, and membership of the NHS Pension Scheme is available.
Person Specification Qualifications- GCSE Grade 1 to C in English and Maths
- Qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care
- Experience of working in a team
- Able to work autonomously
- Good telephone manner
- Experience of Microsoft IT systems
- Experience of working in a GP practice or other clinical environment
- Experience of working with the Emis clinical IT system
