Overview

Lifelong Learning Library Adviser – fixed term until 30/06/2026, Muirhouse Library. Salary: £26,337 – £28,835 (pro‑rata for part‑time).

Hours:

17 per week, 52 weeks. The role is shift‑based and includes some Saturdays and evenings.

Our libraries sit at the heart of their communities, working closely to create a thriving place to live, reduce poverty and inequality, and help users develop digital skills. We also offer programmes such as Bookbug and Read, Write Count to support language and reading development for children, and provide an inclusive space for all ages to meet and connect.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver excellent customer service to library users and serve the needs of different community groups.
  • Engage with young people, either individually or as part of a team, to support their development in a positive, safe and trusted environment.
  • Support the council’s goal of improving the organisational culture by applying the behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility in all interactions.
  • Participate in shift work, including Saturdays and evenings, and be willing to work across any library in the city.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience in customer service and working with diverse community groups, especially young people.
  • Knowledge of library services and the ability to support digital skills development.
  • Registered or eligible for the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, or willing to undergo an update check. An overseas criminal record check may be required for those who have spent 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a service‑first mindset.
