Senior Gardener – Multiple locations

Salary: £26,337 – £28,835 –

Hours:

36 per week.

Position within Parks & Green space Operational Service. Posted at one of our Operational Depots across the city.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out horticultural, landscaping and ground maintenance duties to improve Edinburgh’s parks, gardens and green spaces.
• Work as part of a small gardening team managed by a Supervisor Gardener.
• Support the Supervisor Gardener, take instruction and help develop team‑working within the squad.
• Assist in the training and instruction of gardening staff as required.
• Deputise for Supervisors and support or supervise new starts, apprentices, students and shadow workers as appropriate.
• Work to defined operational standards and health & safety guidance.
• Use handheld technology to record work, receive instructions and report on actions or problems.
• Assist in preparing, reviewing and updating operational risk assessments.
• Operate a range of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
• Assist in determining work practices, arrangements and standards of work in relation to managing the team.
• Undertake tasks in various settings without constant supervision, either alone or with a team.
• Work in all weather and ground conditions and in moving traffic; adhere to health and safety guidelines, risk assessments and the Council’s Lone Working policy.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge and skills in horticulture and parks and grounds maintenance.
• Relevant qualification to SVQ 2 level or equivalent, or evidence of required experience.
