Job Overview
Advanced Practitioner – fixed term until 31/03/2027. Bairns’ Hoose is based on the Icelandic model of ‘Barnahus’ and provides a trauma‑informed, multi‑agency, rights‑based service for children and young people who have experienced violence or abuse.
Salary: £47,639 – £56,392.
Hours:
36 per week. Fixed term until 31/03/2027.
The role is based at Sycamore Bairns’ Hoose and involves working with partners across City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian Councils, Police Scotland, NHS Lothian and other services to deliver and coordinate the Bairns’ Hoose service.
Responsibilities- Support the development of the Bairns’ Hoose practice model in line with agreed objectives.
- Lead, manage and coordinate the activities of the service to achieve positive outcomes for children, young people and families.
- Create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and families.
- Advocate for children’s rights and conduct reviews of needs, gaps and trends, reporting to the Oversight Group.
- Develop and maintain processes, record keeping and administrative activities for the Bairns’ Hoose.
- Participate in external networks and support the Link Worker post to ensure families receive appropriate support.
- Diploma or Degree in Social Work is essential.
- Experience working directly with children who have experienced adversity and a sound understanding of child development.
- Demonstrable experience of implementing new systems and processes, with evidence of practice improvements.
- Demonstrated trauma‑informed approach to practice.
- Excellent listening, communication and advocacy skills.
- Experience collaborating with social work, health, police and third sector professionals.
- Ability to facilitate meaningful participation of children, young people and families in service design.
- Knowledge of practice models, assessment frameworks, standards and national policy landscape.
- Registered with the SSSC and willing to join the PVG Scheme or undergo an update prior to employment.
- Eligible to provide an overseas criminal record check if required.
Candidates must be regulated for work with children or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. A successful applicant will join the PVG Scheme or complete an update, and provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check if they have spent 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years. Employment is subject to satisfactory completion of these checks.
