Scientist - Molecular Toxicologist

Michabo Health Science Limited is a growing spin‑out company from the University of Birmingham. We are leaders in the innovation and application of molecular toxicity data from ‘omics technologies to support the hazard assessment of chemicals under European safety legislation. Our mission is to accelerate the world’s transition towards safer chemicals without vertebrate animal testing, using molecular toxicity data to identify and characterise exposure‑related hazards for regulatory approval.

We seek to recruit a talented molecular toxicologist, with skills in omics data science, complementing the strengths of our existing team. While the post is initially fixed term for 12 months, the company’s intention is for it to become permanent, subject to business needs and performance.

A company Scientist role powers the delivery of our projects by conducting and delivering on contract research, assisting in the development of new contract proposals, and contributing to exploratory research in the company’s R&D programme. The Scientist works closely with Senior Scientists to conduct investigations and report scientific findings. We provide built‑in career progression for Scientists through the learning and development of project planning and management skills, and by specialising in methods continually being improved by our R&D to solve real‑world challenges in chemical safety.

We seek a proven researcher, a team player, and an expert in toxicology who speaks our language, the language of ‘omics data analysis. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent level of expertise) in molecular and cellular toxicology, with considerable experience in the computational and/or statistical analysis of (transcript) omics data. Beyond this core requirement, we welcome applicants with specialisms in developmental and reproductive toxicology, neurotoxicology, or the risk assessment of chemicals.

The Scientist will be capable of designing toxicity experiments to address regulatory toxicological questions, performing reproducible analyses of (transcript) omics data by applying their knowledge of R or Python, and extensively mechanistic interpreting the findings. They will employ their existing biochemical knowledge, and review and incorporate insights from scientific literature and databases, to enable extensive toxicological interpretations across multiple ‘omics studies.
