The research aims to advance multiscale modelling of photo-electro-catalytic (PEC) processes within the EIC PATHFINDER project PREDICT by unifying detailed physical models - light transport, surface reaction kinetics, and multiphase reactive flows - into a single CFD framework. The goal is to build high-fidelity digital twins of PEC reactors by coupling kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) surface chemistry with enhanced reactive CFD, enabling predictive modelling of device performance.
Key tasks include: (1) implementing light–matter interaction in CFD via the radiation transport equation and suitable attenuation models; (2) integrating kMC-based surface kinetics through machine-learning surrogate models for efficient coupling; and (3) analysing simulation and surrogate outputs to validate and refine the framework.
