The RTT will focus on the literary, philosophical and scientific study of natural phenomena in Lucretius' poem, paying particular attention to Epicurean and doxographic sources, as well as subsequent literary references, especially from the early imperial period. Lucretius' poem constitutes a pivotal moment in ancient thought about nature and the relationship between humans and their world. The project will therefore examine De rerum natura, analysing its dialectic between rational vision and mythical allusions, its stylistic and rhetorical strategies, and its reception through significant cases of reworking.
The project will collaborate with the activities promoted by the 'La permanenza del classico' Study Centre of the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies
