Identification and characterization of microorganisms associated with infectious disease outbreaks in farmed and wild aquatic animals. Diagnostic monitoring of microorganisms circulating in various aquaculture systems including the detection of the most prominent pathogens within related ecosystems, investigating their presence both in fish and in biotic components of the surrounding environment. Implementation and refinement of diagnostic systems to assess the health status of aquatic animals with the aim of enhancing biosecurity measures.
Exploration of innovative methods to control infectious diseases of aquatic animals and mitigate their impact through the performance of in vitro and/or in vivo tests to evaluate the immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties of supplements. Enhancement of alternative methods to reduce or replace experimental animal use in aquatic animal health research in alignment with ethical and scientific standards.
