The objective of the project is to introduce new approaches that allow for the calculation of the importance of systems, structures, and components—and, more generally, of parameters or variables—in the modeling of complex technological assets, by leveraging modern computer simulations.
The increasing sophistication of simulators and the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence techniques require a new conceptualization of importance measures, one that preserves their traditional interpretability while enabling their use in more general simulation contexts.
A key innovation involves the development of within-simulation (or given-data) estimators that allow importance measures to be computed directly from simulation data, without needing to rerun the model. This drastically reduces computational cost, making the calculation independent of the system's dimensionality.
