Synthesis and characterization of transition-metal-oxide–based thin films for the solar-assisted treatment of contaminated water. The experimental activity will focus on the synthesis, via Atomic Layer Deposition and vapor-phase Deposition, of nanostructured thin films with a high surface area, with the aim of creating a Z-scheme heterojunction. The characterization will include structural and morphological analyses as well as functional tests through photoelectrochemical experiments for the removal of antibiotics from water.
At least one operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiment is planned at the European synchrotron (F).
Required knowledge:
- Synthesis of thin films;
- Photoelectrocatalysis experiments;
- Local structural characterization via X-ray absorption spectroscopy;
- Structural characterization by X-ray.
