In the role of Senior Project Designer, we will count on you to lead the creative concepts and solutions for complex architectural projects. You will work closely with our Design Principal, engage directly with owners/clients, develop architectural concepts, produce presentation drawings and models, and provide senior design leadership across all disciplines. You will also support business development, mentor staff, and help build and maintain the design culture of our studio.

Responsibilities
  • Take lead responsibility for creative concepts/solutions for complex architectural projects in consultation with the Design Principal.
  • Meet directly with the owner/client, analyze project goals, and conceive and develop architectural concepts/solutions.
  • Initiate and create designs and documentation with responsibility for presentation drawings, models, and narratives.
  • Provide senior design leadership for all disciplines related to overall building design.
  • Represent HDR as a key member of our business development team in marketing to prospective owners/clients.
  • Work with various disciplines throughout all phases to ensure concepts accommodate project needs and the owner’s program.
  • Develop design solutions that meet both client goals and HDR’s internal performance metrics.
  • Direct and mentor other designers as needed.
  • Help build and maintain the design culture of the studio.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architecture.
  • Registered Architect.
  • Minimum of 10 years of design leadership experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities.
  • Interest in sustainable design/LEED strongly desired.
  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino, Grasshopper, Sketch Up, 3‑D Studio Max and other related tools.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes.
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of codes and planning skills.
  • Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
