Job Title:
Control Technician Job Responsibilities
- Perform expert break‑fix, preventive maintenance, and design improvements on mechanical and electrical equipment and complex systems.
- Provide troubleshooting support for equipment and technical support on production lines.
- Maintain in‑depth technical knowledge of numerous systems required for the job specialty.
- Conduct research and develop procedures as required by the job specialty.
- Program, troubleshoot, and analyze complex control systems to resolve in‑depth software, hardware, and configuration problems.
- Utilize predictive equipment and interpret results—including infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, power quality analysis, laser interferometry, ball bar, and vibration analysis—to assess equipment condition and proactively maintain systems.
- Lead, drive, and participate in continuous improvement (CI) activities, applying CI tools and methodology to achieve cost savings.
- Identify and source parts, supplies, and repair items; suggest alternative engineered solutions to improve reliability.
- Perform independent maintenance in accordance with industry standards.
- Comply with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Set up and operate multiple machining operations (lathe, drill press, grinder, etc.) and perform welding tasks as required.
- Study and investigate technical and system methods, tools, and innovations that can be implemented to improve maintenance practices and documentation.
- Prepare inputs for cost analysis of new equipment, repair/rebuild proposals, cost savings, and innovations.
- Update records, review CMMS history, and analyze data.
- Provide technical content for sales quotations and perform time‑and‑material (T&M) duties as required.
- Train and coach less‑proficient technicians; assume project‑manager responsibilities as assigned.
- Complete on‑the‑job training and technical self‑study programs for career development.
- Follow all safety‑related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
- High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).
- Associate degree with a technical focus and 7 years of related experience, or 10 years of experience, in the specific industry.
- Proficiency in predictive technologies—including vibration analysis, laser interferometer operations, precision alignments, and maintenance of applicable process equipment.
- Understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; able to analyze problems, synthesize alternative solutions, and perform repairs.
- Ability to use hand tools and specialized tools as appropriate.
- Travel may be required.
- Six Sigma experience desired.
Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or descend ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces. Occasionally required to sit. Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Requires close vision and color vision. May be exposed to outside weather conditions, electrical shock, hazardous materials, greasy or slippery floors, and loud factory environment.
