Senior

Field Technician Summary
  • Senior field technician who installs, programs, tests, and commissions both commercial fire alarm systems and enterprise‑level access control/video surveillance platforms. Works independently on medium‑to‑large projects, mentors junior technicians, coordinates with trades, and ensures installations meet NFPA, security industry standards, and local code requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Fire Alarm:
    Install, wire, terminate, and test fire alarm components such as control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, NACs, power supplies, and annunciators.
  • Access Control:
    Install and wire access control and video devices including controllers, readers, electric strikes, mag locks, door contacts, request‑to‑exit devices, cameras, power supplies, and backup batteries.
  • Program and configure both fire alarm panels and access control to project specifications (databases, access levels, schedules, events, alarm and video integration).
  • Integrate access control and video management systems (e.g., Genetec, Avigilon, Brivo, Lenel

    S2) with fire alarm and building systems to ensure code‑compliant behavior and seamless security operation.
  • Perform full system commissioning, functional testing, and prepare/present acceptance test documentation and as‑built records.
  • Troubleshoot and repair field faults on fire alarm, and access control; perform signal tracing, network diagnostics, and device‑level testing.
  • Read and interpret plans, riser diagrams, shop drawings, and submittals; follow manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Provide on‑site client training and technical support during turnover and warranty periods.
  • Mentor and guide Level 1–2 technicians; enforce safe work practices and company procedures.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, electrical, IT, and security trades to ensure proper routing, grounding, and network connectivity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certificate in electrical, electronics, fire technology, or security systems preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in both fire alarm installation/commissioning and/or access control.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable local fire/building/security codes.
  • Experience with major fire alarm brands (Notifier, Siemens, Potter, Silent Knight) and access control/video platforms (Genetec, Avigilon, Brivo, Lenel

    S2, and other enterprise‑class systems).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Certifications & Skills
  • Fire Alarm: NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification Level II or III preferred (or willingness to pursue).
  • Access Control/Video:
    Vendor or manufacturer certifications in at least one major platform (e.g., Genetec, Avigilon, Brivo, Lenel

    S2, Software House, Honeywell/Pro‑Watch).
  • Basic IP/networking knowledge (VLANs, DHCP, static addressing) for networked access control/video devices.
  • Low‑voltage electrician or security industry certifications, OSHA 10, and lift/working‑at‑height training preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and client communication skills.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Regular work at heights (ladders, lifts), confined spaces, and indoor/outdoor job sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 LBS, stand, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
  • Occasional overtime, evenings, and weekend commissioning or emergency response.
  • Travel between job sites as required.
