Job Summary
The Cost Accounting Manager plays a critical role in supporting the financial success of our construction operations. This position is responsible for overseeing project and job costing, preparing financial projections and budgets, supporting month‑end close and reporting, and providing leadership for the Job Cost functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with precision and attention to detail.
ScheduleThe schedule for the Cost Accounting Manager is typically Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM
. Based on project needs, some flexibility may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor project budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actual cost records across multiple construction projects
- Identify cost variances and collaborate with project managers and superintendents to resolve discrepancies
- Support the month‑end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Complete monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and cost adjustments
- Assist with monthly financial forecasts and performance reporting for active projects
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process and periodic financial reviews
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls
- Track and report project data to assist with tax compliance and audit requirements
- Oversee the Job Cost functions and provide guidance to the staff
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, construction industry experience preferred
- Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles and GAAP
- Familiarity with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and project forecasting
- Experience with Viewpoint Vista or similar construction ERP systems is a plus
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a plus
