Technical Artist: Materials

As a Technical Material Artist at Zeromatter, you'll help redefine what's possible in photorealistic simulation. You'll create physically-accurate materials that respond to light exactly as they would in the real world—across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. This role offers the rare opportunity to push the boundaries of material science in a virtual context, combining artistic sensibility with technical rigor to develop materials that fool not just human eyes, but also the most advanced sensor systems on the planet.

• Build and maintain a diverse library of photorealistic textures and materials using a combination of procedural techniques and scanned references.
• Develop multi-material layering strategies and rulesets to ensure photorealism and realistic variation across mesh surfaces.
• Work with wavelength measurements outside of the visible spectrum.
• Work alongside rendering engineers and procedural artists to design features and workflows for achieving photorealism at scale.

• Professional experience as a material or environment artist.
• An exceptional portfolio with relevant examples of your work.
• Strong knowledge of physically based rendering materials.
• An eye and passion for creating uncompromising photorealistic visuals.
• Experience with material authoring software such as Substance Designer.
• Experience with realtime game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, etc.
• Familiarity with geometry creation in Houdini.
• Working knowledge of a scripting language such as Python.
• Bonus:
  Familiarity with Machine Learning.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The total pay for this position ranges from $100,000 a year up to $300,000 a year + equity + benefits. Pay is based on several factors, including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package also includes benefits such as medical, dental and vision insurance;
