Overview
Assistant Teaching Professor of Mechanical Engineering is a full-time faculty position within the Mechanical Engineering Program at Penn State Harrisburg. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service, and will promote a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, foster scholarly engagement, and participate in service activities supporting institutional goals. Start Date:
August 2025. This is a term position.
- Teaching: teach 12 credit hours per semester. Areas of focus may include engineering design, computer-aided design and analysis, and engineering mechanics.
- The program offers two BS degrees:
Mechanical Engineering (ABET EAC accredited) and Mechanical Engineering Technology (ABET TAC accredited). - Graduate programs: residential MS program and a PhD program are offered by the School.
- Faculty will participate in all degree programs and in recruitment and retention activities, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and supervise graduate student culminating experiences.
- Research/Scholarly/Creative Accomplishments: stay current with pedagogical advancements and share activities with colleagues through seminars and conferences as appropriate.
- Service: participate on department, school, and college committees to advance the college and university mission.
- Promote the school’s commitment to education and to increasing the diversity of voices in STEM within professional and regional communities of south-central Pennsylvania.
- Education:
at start, candidate must have a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field; degree must be awarded no later than August 2025. - The candidate should possess a terminal degree or equivalent in a related field, or have at least a master's degree with demonstrated teaching/advising ability and evidence of professional growth, scholarship, or mastery of subject matter.
- Expertise: background in engineering design, engineering mechanics, and/or mechatronics.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience.
