Long Term Substitute
Description: Our Long Term Subs (LTSs) are responsible for creating interactive and engaging lessons that ensure student mastery of common core state standards. This position is as needed and covers teachers’ vacancies. The LTSs ensure that students achieve mastery of learning objectives, provide guidance, instruction, and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. They monitor student progress through interactive lessons and daily assessments, and work actively with students and parents to advance each child’s learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach and monitor students Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Provide instruction in both online and face-to‑face settings (blended).
- Teach from the academy or a designated remote location minimum three days per week.
- Integrate writing performance tasks in all subject areas.
- Collect, review, and provide feedback on student work samples.
- Prepare students for state standardized tests.
- Required travel to proctor site‑based testing throughout Nevada.
- Participate in professional development opportunities. Remain current with educational trends and effectively implement new strategies.
- Conduct regular conferences with parents/learning coaches and students to assess each student’s progress. Document conference details in a database.
- Analyze data to identify student academic strengths and weaknesses. Proactively track student progress and school attendance.
- Demonstrate knowledge of assistive technologies.
- Effectively manage time and respond to students, parents/learning coaches and NVVA staff via phone, e‑mail or face‑to‑face within 24 hours.
- Participate on IEP and pre‑referral teams for students with special needs.
- Participate in a professional learning community.
- Be active in extracurricular activities.
- Respond within 24 hours to student, parent and NVVA staff inquiries via phone and/or e‑mail or face‑to‑face.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Travel and arrive a minimum of fifteen minutes early for all face‑to‑face and/or live sessions with staff or students.
- Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress and/or truancy.
- Other duties as assigned.
- State of Nevada substitute license.
- Teaching or substitute teaching experience.
- Must possess a substitute teaching license by the Nevada Department of Education.
