Overview

Doctoral fellowship in History and Theory of Architecture – Institute of History and Theory of Architecture (gta), ETH Zurich.

Two fellowship positions, start 1 October 2026, funded for three years (100%, ETH Standard Rate) with possible renewal for one additional year.

Conduct original doctoral research on a topic within the history and theory of architecture and urbanism. The fellowships place no restriction on the geography or time period of the proposed research project.

• Background in the history and theory of architecture, art, or experience as an architect with research experience.
• University diploma or master’s degree in architecture, history of art, or related fields.
• Excellent research and writing skills.

• 100% doctoral salary (ETH standard rate).
• Participation in the doctoral program of the gta.
• Academic supervision and mentoring by institute members within a developed research framework (including guidance towards specific methods, materials, and bibliography).
• Guidance in writing, publishing, and career development.
