The STEM & Health Profession Pathways Director should function as the university's pipeline architect for STEM careers and advanced education. Rather than simply advising students, the director intentionally builds partnerships, creates experiential learning opportunities, coordinates research and professional development, and equips students with the experiences, competencies, and networks needed to succeed in competitive STEM and health professions. Working collaboratively with the other offices within the Center for Career Success & Experiential Learning, the director ensures students have access to an integrated pathway from exploration to graduate study or career placement.
A STEM & Health Profession Pathways Director serves as the bridge between academic preparation, experiential learning, and post-graduation opportunities for students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and health professions. The role extends beyond academic advising by creating structured pathways that prepare students for graduate education, professional schools, research, internships, and employment.
Strategic Leadership- Develop and implement a comprehensive STEM and Health Professions strategic plan aligned with institutional priorities.
- Establish measurable goals for student participation, retention, graduate school acceptance, and career outcomes.
- Collaborate with academic departments to identify workforce trends and emerging STEM fields.
- Represent the university at regional and national STEM and health professions consortiums.
- Advise students interested in careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant, veterinary medicine, public health, engineering, computer science, biotechnology, and other STEM fields.
- Assist students in developing individualized academic and career plans.
- Guide students through prerequisite planning, competitive applicant preparation, and professional school admissions processes.
- Conduct workshops on application timelines, personal statements, interviews, and entrance examinations (e.g., MCAT, DAT, GRE, PA-CAT).
- Coordinate research, clinical, internship, shadowing, and service-learning opportunities.
- Develop relationships with hospitals, laboratories, research institutions, biotechnology companies, government agencies, and STEM employers.
- Expand opportunities for undergraduate research and faculty-mentored projects.
- Support students in obtaining paid experiential learning opportunities and grants.
- Prepare students for admission to graduate and professional schools.
- Coordinate mock interviews and admissions preparation.
- Review personal statements and application materials.
- Facilitate committee letter processes where applicable.
- Monitor acceptance rates and student outcomes
- Establish articulation agreements and early assurance partnerships with medical schools, graduate programs, and healthcare organizations.
- Develop partnerships with federal agencies, research institutions, and corporate STEM organizations.
- Coordinate employer engagement activities specific to STEM industries.
- Cultivate alumni mentors working in STEM and healthcare careers.

- MCAT/GRE preparation workshops
- Industry site visits
- Faculty and alumni panel discussions
- Summer research opportunities information sessions
- Clinical experience fairs
- Identify and support students from entry through graduation.
- Monitor academic progress and intervene with at-risk students.
- Promote participation in high-impact practices.
- Encourage leadership development within STEM organizations.
- Assist students in identifying research opportunities.
- Support conference presentation submissions.
- Promote undergraduate publication opportunities.
