Job Description & How to Apply Below
Role Snapshot: 12-month contract. Hybrid. Madison, PA. Join Westinghouse through WECTEC Staffing Services to architect micro-scale robotic systems that enable precision underwater Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) on subsea structures.
A Day in the Life- Draft and iterate concepts in CAD for micro-robotic actuators, manipulators, and end-effectors engineered for submerged operation and verified for pressures up to 40 PSIG.
- Engineer waterproof precision components and tools that remain reliable in radiation environments.
- Integrate micro-EDM toolheads with robotic platforms, including electrode design, pulsed DC power delivery for spark generation, and dielectric fluid management to mitigate arcing in conductive underwater settings.
- Create guidance, navigation, and control algorithms, leveraging encoders and cameras for repeatable robotic head alignment and accurate positioning.
- Scale designs from prototype to production, lead design reviews, and troubleshoot complex system issues.
- Analyze EDM process data, conduct inspections, and implement continuous improvements to boost quality and throughput.
- Program and refine EDM parameters for wire EDM and sinker EDM to achieve tight tolerances and complex geometries under water.
- Prototype, simulate submerged conditions in the lab, perform failure analyses, and iterate for manufacturability and reliability.
- Collaborate with vendors to source materials and production partners; travel occasionally for field trials or work at restoration and manufacturing sites.
You will report to the Senior Manager of Reactor Components Upgrades in Field Engineering.
About You- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Robotics Engineering.
- 7–10 years in a robotics-focused organization with end-to-end product or system ownership.
- Deep mastery of micro-robotics at millimeter scales and underwater engineering, including pressure resistance and subsea constraints.
