We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Project Manager - Suits to join the team! The Chief Project Manager will aid the development/redesign, certification, acceptance and delivery of Suits flight hardware. Hardware to be used across multiple programs (ISS/Orion/Gateway). The CPM is responsible for the ISS/Orion/Gateway customer projects in Suits under the Crew and Thermal System Division (CTSD) at JSC, and will coordinate closely with the Division Technical Manager (DTM) while reporting up to NASA in this developing area.

Responsibilities
  • Lead project management and engineering efforts across all JETS Suit project teams in the design, analysis, development, delivery, and deployment of flight hardware and systems.
  • Build a capable, cooperative, and supportive team for the development, manufacturing, testing, certification, and sustaining engineering of major Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) end items for ISS, Orion, and Gateway engineering projects.
  • Mentor Project Management (PM) and project team personnel in critical thinking, decision making, and behaviors to improve project effectiveness and create high‑performing teams.
  • Apply Project Management processes and tools in the development, sustainment or operation of human‑rated flight hardware or systems.
  • Direct and hold accountable matrix organizations in the requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of flight hardware.
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate issues within flight hardware, development or qualification test articles, or test support hardware.
  • Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks.
  • Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.
  • Define, communicate and mitigate project and program risks and opportunities.
  • Address project problems in a timely and straightforward manner.
  • Establish a healthy project environment.
  • Foster strong, healthy customer relationships.
  • Coordinate and support flight hardware products and systems development phases through design, procurement, fabrication, test, data analysis, certification, and flight/mission delivery.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent STEM field) from an accredited engineering school.
  • 14 years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree with 12 years of direct engineering experience and proven project management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience involving NASA flight hardware or sustaining engineering.
  • Extensive experience with ISS flight hardware Class 1 processes and projects.
  • Knowledge of mechanical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, environmental testing, office software, and related certifications.
  • Background in flight hardware development, testing, analysis, and certification.
  • Knowledge or experience in test and verification of human‑rated systems.
  • Ability to perform cost and schedule development/estimating and management functions with experience in risk assessment and risk‑reducing measures.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills to meet deadlines and work independently.
