The Sr. Engineering Project Manager is accountable for the strategic leadership, coordination, and execution of complex, cross-functional engineering programs and capital projects s role ensures that all initiatives are aligned with organizational priorities, driving efficiency, innovation, and successful delivery across multiple interrelated projects. The Sr. Project Manager leads a team of program managers and engineers, fostering collaboration across departments to integrate new production technologies, equipment, and systems.
This position plays a critical role in establishing and promoting best-in-class program management practices, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring seamless execution from concept through implementation.
- Lead cross-functional teams across Engineering, Quality, Production, Facilities, and Project Management in a strong matrix environment.
- Oversee capital projects including GMP laboratories, clean rooms, lyophilizers, and facility systems (AHUs, chillers, dehumidifiers), with integrated automation and controls.
- Act as project lead for plant expansion, managing budgets, timelines, and resource allocation aligned with Bachem’s business goals.
- Ensure consistent application of project governance and methodologies across all initiatives.
- Support Engineering Director in facility remodeling and expansion efforts.
- Drive equipment design, qualification, and validation for new and existing systems.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and training programs for new equipment.
- Leverage deep understanding of engineering design and technology from Switzerland to build a high-performing, compliant facility.
- Replicate and optimize Swiss manufacturing infrastructure in the U.S. to support large-scale production.
- Author and maintain GMP documentation including SOPs, STPs, master batch records, and process development reports.
- Create technical drawings and specifications to support equipment and process design.
- Master’s degree in engineering, science, business or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business or related discipline with a minimum of 12 years’ relevant work experience
- Associate degree in engineering, science, business or related discipline with a minimum of 15 years’ relevant work experience
- Minimum of 8 years pharm/biotech experience
- Work experience in GMP-related capital projects
- Knowledge of cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing methods and engineering principles
- Technical knowledge of processes, equipment, and utilities (batch processing, tank, filtration, lyophilization, purified water systems etc.)
- PMP certification
$126,317 - $173,686
Placement in this wage range is based on several factors, including education, skill set, experience, and training.
