About Laboratory Testing

Laboratory Testing (LTI) has been the trusted testing partner for mission-critical industries since 1984, when Robert W. McVaugh opened its doors as a local metallurgical lab. Today, LTI is ISO 17025 and NADCAP accredited, running destructive and non‑destructive testing, machining, and calibration services for close to 3,000 customers across the aerospace, defense, space, and nuclear supply chains.

The company is still led by the McVaugh family, now in its third generation, and has partnered with Kanbrick, a long‑term investment partnership, to bring operating support and capital to its next phase of growth without losing what built it.

The Manufacturing Engineer shall provide best in‑class service to LTI's growing machine shop customer base and internal group focused on improving quality, on time delivery and efficiency.

This position requires strong technical knowledge of Solid Works, GD&T, CNC machining and programming (MasterCAM), and machine shop capabilities. The Manufacturing Engineer sets the direction and standards for both machining and inspection - programs, fixtures, workflow, and documentation - that shop personnel execute day to day, while troubleshooting issues and driving continuous improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own the Machine Shop’s inspection and machining program standards, providing direction and documentation for shop personnel to execute.
  • Own drawing creation, revision, and archival for specimen and fixture drawings in Solid Works, including cut-up plans and DXF files.
  • Review customer drawings to confirm GD&T requirements can be met.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC machining programs (MasterCAM) for new and recurring work, partnering with machinists on setup, tooling, and programming issues.
  • Maintain, update, and troubleshoot inspection equipment programs and measurement discrepancies to minimize downtime.
  • Work with shop personnel to create procedures for set-up and operations of complex specimens.
  • Design and specify fixtures and tooling for repeatable, efficient setups.
  • Assist with shop workflow and cell layout to reduce cycle time.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Material (BOM) for fixtures, tooling, and recurring jobs.
  • Own and maintain the nonconformance process-MINCE (Machining or Inspection Non‑Conformance Evaluation).
    • Review all nonconforming specimens to ensure they meet quality standards, protect product integrity, and support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a backup library of all CNC machine programs.
  • Use of LTI's ERP system Infor Cloud Suite Industrial, Shop-Trak
  • Lead process improvement, 5S, and standardization initiatives with shop floor leaders to reduce process variation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The engineer will have a minimum of 4 years' experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • LTI will accept candidates who have equivalent working experience and demonstrate the competencies to be successful in the role
  • The candidate must have a bachelor's degree (BA) from four‑year college or university in one of the following engineering disciplines;
Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials, Process or a related engineering field.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
    Lean Level I or equivalent
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting industry and customer specifications and technical documents.
  • Strong internal and external communication skills.
  • Ability to create a detailed cut‑up plan in Solid Works.
  • Ability to draw specimens, fixtures and create DXF files in Solid Works.

This position requires use of information or access to processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export laws including but not limited to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In accordance with ITAR, to be qualified to work in this facility, applicants must be a US Person, which is defined as a US National, US Permanent Resident, and certain categories of Asylees and Refugees.
