Corrections Officer - SCI Fayette

THE POSITION

In this position you will supervise subordinate officers and ensure that all assigned duties are within compliance of policies, procedures, and regulations governing all aspects of care, custody, and control of inmates in an institutional setting. Plan, organize, assign, and monitor correctional officer duties. Conduct inspections of all areas in assigned zone to ensure all officers are alert and diligent in the performance of their duties and complete related Commissioned Officers Daily Inspection Report.

Monitor officers' assignments so that maximum effectiveness can be achieved with a minimum of personnel. Conduct semi‑annual and annual employee performance evaluations. Conduct interviews for prospective subordinate staff. Provide training to new subordinate staff, and ensure that trainees are utilized at their appropriate level of training phase. Interpret rules, regulations, policies, and objectives of the institution for subordinates.

Oversee daily schedules and facility operations involving security, food service, plant maintenance, medical service, and recreational activities. Plan and organize inmate movements to and from work assignments, recreational activities, and meal periods. Ensure that all major inmate movements and activities receive adequate supervision and control. Maintain and submit all necessary transport and movement records and reports.

Conduct daily tours of inmate housing units and address any concerns. Take, receive, and check periodic counts of inmates. Monitor the surveillance of institutional grounds, buildings, and inmate work sites for possible irregularities in inmate behavior. Report any observed changes in the personality, demeanor, and degree of program participation for inmates. Participate in counseling inmates on problems associated with institutional adjustment matters of a personal nature.

Maintain and submit all necessary records and reports regarding inmate activities and incidents.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
