TOWNSHIP OF HAMPTON -- POLICE OFFICER General Information

The Township of Hampton is accepting applications to prepare an eligibility list for the position of a full‑time police officer. The Township of Hampton Police Department (HTPD) is a full‑time full‑service law enforcement agency. The HTPD serves a resident population of approximately 20,000 people and is dispatched to approximately 10,000 calls for service annually. The Township of Hampton is a mix of residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational areas in Allegheny County, PA.

General

Qualifications

• 21 years of age.
• Completed, or currently enrolled, in the MPOETC basic police academy (Act 120). Applicants still attending the academy must have graduated by a set start date of employment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
• In good physical condition.
• Good moral character.
• Graduated from an accredited high school or have an equivalent education acceptable to state standards.
• Capable of performing the essential duties of a police officer.
• Free from the addicted or habitual use of intoxicating liquors or controlled substances.
• No convictions or acts defined as a “disqualifying offense” as defined by MPOETC.
• No previous dismissals from public service for delinquency or misconduct of office.
• No affiliations with any group whose policies or activities are subversive of the form of government set forth in the Constitution and laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Selection Procedure

• Proper submission and receipt of application. Any false information or incomplete applications will be disqualified.
• Written examination
• Physical agility test
• Oral examination conducted by a board of law enforcement professionals.
• Comprehensive background investigation.
• Polygraph examination.
• Final selection will be made from any one of the top three candidates (veteran’s preference applied consistent with the law).
• Physical examination and drug screen (after conditional offer).
• Psychological examination (after conditional offer).

Salary and Benefits

• Competitive starting salary provided in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Current salary for a senior patrol officer (5 Years): $107,175

Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) MPOETC

establishes minimum curriculum and training standards for municipal police officers. Additional training for certified courses through MPOETC is encouraged by the department for officer career development.
