Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS) designs, implements, and evaluates behavior reduction and skill acquisition treatment plans for the students on their caseload under the supervision of a Board‑Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The LBS collaborates with the BCBA to assess and monitor behavioral progress of students with autism and/or other disabilities by implementing treatment plans, maintaining progress reports, and providing behavior support to students.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists teachers and/or clinicians in the implementation of students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) behavioral goals by supporting the direct instruction of behavior‑based programming, preparing documents and technology, and collecting/recording data in identified areas for student success to maximize the attainment of behavioral skills for the assigned student(s)
- Conducts assessments including, but not limited to, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) by completing direct and indirect observations, data collection, data analysis to determine the nature of the behavior and write Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) that teach and reinforce functionally based alternative behavior under the supervision of a BCBA
- Trains staff to implement evidenced‑based positive behavior support strategies by using behavior skills training and in‑moment coaching to ensure fidelity of positive behavior support plans
- Provides crisis intervention services to students to increase engagement, build social skills, reduce behavioral incidences, and improve social and emotional development by responding to classroom needs and implementing safe crisis management techniques as indicated by student behavior to ensure appropriate de‑escalation techniques are being used and student safety is maintained
- Obtains and maintains trainer credentials for programs adopted by the Davidson School by participating in scheduled trainings and passing all required competencies at 100% to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management)
- Trains staff to proficiency in programs adopted by the Davidson School to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management) by demonstrating, coaching, and observing program methods to ensure that staff can manage crisis situations in a safe and consistent manner
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings for students exhibiting behavioral challenges by attending meetings, providing input, and sharing data to provide a collaborative approach to improving behavior by reviewing behavior support plans, fidelity to intervention strategies, and discussing the implementation of the specially designed instruction (SDI), etc.
- Participates in Behavioral Incident Report (BIR) debriefings by attending reviews as scheduled for a behavioral event, and discussing future approaches to similar behaviors to ensure that all staff are aware of students' behavioral tendencies and appropriate proactive strategies for behavioral management
