Within our retail locations, our Staff Pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team. As a Staff Pharmacist, you support the Pharmacy Manager in leading and directing the pharmacy team, oversee day‑to‑day operations, and deliver safe, patient‑centered care.
Responsibilities- Living our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Supporting the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy, overseeing shifts, coaching staff, and providing performance feedback.
- Acting as Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts when no other pharmacist is available.
- Ensuring safe and accurate prescription fulfillment and directing the team to follow pharmacy workflow procedures.
- Contributing to positive patient experiences through empathy, collaboration with the patient’s healthcare team, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
- Offering and delivering immunizations and training Pharmacy Technicians to immunize.
- Managing pharmacy inventory, protecting cold‑chain products, and following inventory best practices.
- Ensuring compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalating concerns as needed.
- Adjusting schedules flexibly and writing schedules when directed.
- Maintaining clinical and technical skills through required training, CMEs, and continuous learning.
- Delivering pharmacist‑driven clinical care such as COVID/Flu shots and hormonal contraception, where permissible, and empowering the pharmacy team to provide holistic care.
- Complying with federal and state laws, professional standards, and CVS Health policies, including controlled‑substance dispensing and recordkeeping.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Completion of required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus: ability to concentrate, pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy, and ensure patient safety.
- Customer service and team orientation: look for ways to help people, respond to patient reactions appropriately.
- Communication skills: verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues, active listening, and appropriate questioning.
- Mathematical reasoning: use math to solve dispensing problems.
- Issue resolution: identify challenging interactions and select the best course of action.
- Physical demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, and visual acuity; ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Additional tasks as directed by supervisor or manager.
- 1‑2 years of related experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work at other locations across the market as business needs require.
Typical pay range: $60.00 – $76.00 per hour. The actual base salary will depend on experience, education, geography, and other factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range.
