As a Medical Records Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate and organized medical records for incarcerated individuals. Your work will involve coding diseases, operations, and therapies, as well as ensuring that all documentation is in compliance with policies and standards set by the Department of Corrections and other applicable agencies. You will also be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of medical information and fulfilling any legal requests for medical records.
Additionally, you will facilitate the transfer of medical records for inmates upon release or transfer from the institution. Furthermore, you will present medical records in court when under subpoena. Overall, your work will be essential in providing quality health care to incarcerated individuals in a secure and compliant manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes). - You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:
- You must be in possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or have eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
Post Employment Requirement:
- Employees who meet the Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
