Legal Counsel – Crypto / Financial Regulation
We are currently hiring a Legal Counsel with deep expertise in the regulatory landscape surrounding crypto, fintech, and financial services, particularly within the Swiss jurisdiction. The successful candidate will act as a key legal advisor, supporting global operations and ensuring regulatory compliance, sound risk governance, and alignment with fast‑evolving financial legislation across multiple jurisdictions.
This position is ideal for a legal professional with extensive hands‑on experience dealing with Swiss financial regulations, Self‑Regulatory Organisation (SRO) frameworks (e.g. VQF or equivalent), and Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) obligations. A strong grasp of EU and US regulatory regimes applicable to fintech and crypto businesses is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Draft, revise, and negotiate a range of legal agreements, including:
- Token‑related contracts
- Service agreements and SLAs
- Grant agreements
- Platform Terms & Conditions and incentive program documents
- Partner with internal teams to deliver commercially aware and legally compliant solutions.
- Advise internal stakeholders on financial and crypto regulatory obligations across Swiss, EU, and US jurisdictions.
- Oversee adherence to regulatory requirements, including SRO registrations, VQF obligations, and AML standards.
- Develop, implement, and update internal compliance policies (e.g. AML/KYC, data protection, conflicts of interest, internal controls).
- Act as a point of contact for regulatory bodies, auditors, and external legal consultants as needed.
- Support corporate governance structures through policy drafting and continuous refinement of internal protocols.
- Identify and mitigate regulatory and legal risks, aligned with industry‑specific risk profiles.
- Contribute to internal audit functions and help maintain audit readiness from a legal perspective.
- Maintain a central repository for legal documents, contracts, and key dates.
- Conduct in‑house legal and regulatory research and deliver concise, actionable insights.
- Coordinate with external legal advisors to ensure effective, cost‑conscious legal support.
- Monitor emerging trends and legal developments within crypto, fintech, and financial services sectors.
- Law degree with admission to the bar in Switzerland or another relevant European jurisdiction.
- At least 5–6 years’ post‑qualification experience in legal roles within the fintech, crypto, or financial services industries.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Swiss financial and crypto regulation, including SRO membership requirements and AML frameworks.
- Prior involvement in companies with formal internal control systems and audit oversight.
- Working knowledge of data protection laws, governance procedures, and commercial contract law.
- Experience managing third‑party legal providers and maintaining relationships with regulatory authorities.
- Strong document and process management skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
- Familiarity with the legal aspects of financial data and intellectual property rights in financial products is an advantage.
