ME Description
IRIS² is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connec‑tivity dead zones.
SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi‑orbit satellite constellation.
The IRIS2 team enters next project phases and there is a strong need of support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future. The IRIS2 constellation will also be used for SES commercial business.
ROLE DescriptionYou will be part of an agile project organization where a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset is required. You are responsible for the definition of the S3C architecture, functional software breakdown and interfaces.
In addition, you are developing and maintaining software solutions for the operations of GEO, MEO and LEO satellites or constellations which are representing an essential driver for the IRIS2 S3C software components, architecture and interfaces. The resulting solutions shall be compliant with the strictest security requirements required by the IRIS2 application.
Your responsibilities include collaboration with satellite manufacturers and software providers for all S3C deliverables related to IRIS
2. Following the satellite manufacturing contract signature, you are responsible for the alignment of the S3C (Satellite Constellation Control Center) design and development plan against the satellite constellation manufacturer’s requirements and schedules, fulfilling the operational concept, identifying the preferred infrastructure, in full compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
- Contribute to the definition of the S3C architecture.
- Contribute to the definition of the S3C interfaces with rest of SES existing and future assets as well as interaction with IRIS2 system.
- Contribute to Payload and subsystems requirements definition for its necessary interfaces with MCC and S3C (e.g. high‑speed link commanding, etc).
- Contribute to TT&C and crypto requirements and on‑board computer needs for TT&C handling in both nominal operations and contingency operations.
- In relation to TT&C encryption:
- Propose solutions that can satisfy government customer needs expressed in the mission requirements.
- Align and discuss as needed the possible solutions with SES SD and Global Government SES teams.
- Preserve whenever possible the efficiency of the resulting S3C system.
- Define and justify the topology of the command paths to the platform and to the payload.
- Identify the S3C “constellation” components (i.e., one instance for the entire constellation) vs the “sat‑ellite” components (i.e., one instance per satellite).
- Elaborate an industrial setup for the development and implementation of the identified software components. Assess a logic for verticalization over time, identifying what makes sense to develop and integrate within SES and when.
- Identify S3C s/w components which are reusable between IRIS2 and MEO S3C.
- Maintain full long‑term control of all the operational software, preserving the ability to maintain it.
- Contribute to the overall system Capex and Opex.
- Generate and report identified risks in the form of risk registers.
- Generate high‑level S3C Architecture diagrams describing the S3C and its interfaces.
- Identify S3C Make or Buy components.
- Identify synergies and reusable components from/to the IRIS2 S3C.
- Strong ability to work independently and without supervision in complex environments, e.g. project or matrix organizations.
- Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing project requirements and environments.
- Ability to think strategically and align project goals with organizational objectives.
- Excellent problem‑solving and…
