What You Will Do
- Independently perform the job of tool maker "A/B" in its entirety, operating all the typical department machines and any specialty machines as assigned, including milling machines, centerless grinders, and surface grinders.
- Receive general directions from lead person/foreman and work from complex ideas, drawings, sketches, blueprints, and verbal instructions, using micrometers, vernier calipers, indicators, protractors, etc., to produce the desired part or result.
- Must have own basic measuring tools.
- Obtain instructions, sketches, drawings, etc., from lead person/foreman.
- Obtain raw materials from department stock.
- Set up department machines to produce work with very close tolerances.
- Produce first pieces, check all dimensions for accuracy, and produce subsequent pieces to exact tolerances and specifications, checking each upon completion.
- Fit and assemble parts as required.
- Detect and report faulty machine operation, defective materials, drawing discrepancies, and operating problems.
- Replenish raw materials as used.
- Replace or re-sharpen cutting tools as needed.
- Perform final inspections and deliver tools to the next workstation.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area, perform weekly cleanup, and keep machines free of chips.
- Complete required paperwork, including routers, pick slips, and inspection reports.
- Collaborate with foreperson to exchange pertinent work information.
- Observe all safety regulations.
- Maintain all tool room machines in proper working order.
- Perform other duties as required.
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or GED.
- Tool & Die Makers Certificate or minimum 5 years of tool room experience.
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity for detailed work.
- Ability to stand for at least 8 hours per day.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30-40 lbs from floor to waist.
