Apprentice - Finish Grinder (Non‑Seal Ring)
Penn United Technologies, Inc. is accepting applications for a full‑time Apprentice – Finish Grinder to join our Carbide manufacturing team. This role is part of an in‑house certificate program that, upon completion of the 4‑year training curriculum, leads to a Journey worker title.
Responsibilities- Learn to operate and understand manual and CNC grinding equipment.
- Grind carbide components according to exact blueprint specifications.
- Read prints and job orders to determine dimensions and machine set‑up.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Ensure proper grade segregation is practiced at all work stations.
- Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications using precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers and gauges.
- Report to work on time and be ready to learn and accomplish tasks.
- Attend on‑site apprenticeship classes in addition to on‑the‑job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor.
- High level of technical, mechanical and math aptitude.
- Strong desire to perform precision work.
- Knowledge of blueprint reading and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers) is preferred but not required.
- Willingness to work the majority of the time on a daylight shift, though availability for any shift is required; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand 8‑10 hours per day.
- Regular attendance and solid performance in apprenticeship classes.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience with grinding machines is preferred but not required.
